When I found out I was pregnant, I was 18 years old and still living with my mother. I immediately moved out. I felt that if I can make the decision to get pregnant, I could live and support the child on my own. So, my boyfriend and I moved in with one another and a few days later, he proposed so we were engaged.

As a pregnant teen, I was scared, of course, but was nowhere as scared as I was when we found out they were twins! They didn’t have any high-risk appointments for me which worried me because I had always heard that twins were high risk. At 22 weeks, we went to have my gender reveal ultrasound done. The doctor discovered that they heard no heartbeats and that I was having identical twin girls.

They told me that they hardly ever have identical twins due to complications and twin disorders.

This is why I lost my girls to a twin disorder called twin to twin transfusion. When this happens, it means one twin gets too much blood while the other doesn’t get enough causing a difference in color at birth. I was very emotional and depressed. I didn’t want to live and I felt that no one understood. I was angry, mad and confused. This was on December 19, 2014.

In March 2015, I found out that I was pregnant with my now 2-year-old son and I knew there was a reason for everything. Currently, I’m pregnant with my second son and he’s healthy.
